All-Natural Constipation Reliever
All-Natural Constipation Reliever
1/2 cup (61 g) rhubarb, chopped
1/4 cup (60 ml) water
2 to 3 tablespoons (30 to 45 ml) honey
Greek yogurt, optional
Here's a wonderful way to balance your system. While the leaves of the rhubarb plant are poisonous and should never be eaten, consuming the stalk portion of the plant can supply your system with anthraquinone compounds, natural stimulant laxatives. Rhubarb also contains high levels of tannins and pectin, which help reduce inflammation in the colon and keep the laxative effect in check. Limit yourself to 1 serving; rhubarb is not appropriate for people with certain health conditions, kidney dysfunction- do not use. Combine the rhubarb and water in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer. let simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until the water is absorbed and the fruit is soft. Remove from heat and stir in the honey until mixture reaches desired sweetness. Either cool to room temperature or serve warm. A dollop of Greek yogurt may be served on top, if desired.
