Comfrey Poison Ivy Compress
Comfrey Poison Ivy Compress
1 cup (240 ml) water
2 teaspoons (10 ml) dried comfrey
Poison ivy is a plant that contains urushiol, one of the most misery inducing allergic oils on the planet. If you're exposed, your skin will soon develop the telltale itchy and painful rash. For relief, turn to the inflammation-fighting power of comfrey. If you have access to the fresh plant, squeeze out some comfrey juice from the stems of the plant and rub it on the rash. If the dried herb is your option, try this herbal compress remedy. Bring water to a gentle boil. Steep the comfrey in the water for 10 minutes. Strain, then let cool to room temperature, keeping it covered to retain the volatile oils. Soak a clean cloth in the infusion and apply directly to affected areas. Let dru and repeat as necessary. (Note that comfrey is not to be taken internally; it is for topical use only. Do not apply to brokedn skin.)
