Tea-Tree Laundry Soap
Tea-Tree Laundry Soap
1/2 gallon (2 L) water
1/2 bar Fels-Naptha laundry soap, grated
1 cup (220 g) washing soda
1 cup (220 g) borax
1 1/2 gallons (6 l) warm water
15 drops tea-tree oil
If you have a large household and find yourself doing several loads of laundry every day, this formula could save you a lot of money over the course of the year. You will need a large lidded bucket for making and storing the formula (or recycle some empty laundry detergent bottles for storage). Warm 1/4 gallon (1 L) water in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the grated soap and stir until dissolved (this may take several minutes). Remove from heat and add the other 1/4 gallon (1L) water, the washing soda, and the borax. Mix thoroughly. Pour the mixture into a large bucket and add the remaining 1 1/2 gallons (6 L) warm water. Stir until ingredients are thoroughly combined, then add the tea-tree oil. Place the lid on the bucket and let detergent sit overnight before using or transferring to the other containers. Always stir before using and store with the lid on. You will only need to use 1/4 to 1/3 cup (60 to 80 ml) per load. The batch should last for about one hundred wash cycles.
