Tips for avoiding GMO’s in Grains and Beans
Grains and Beans
Quick hints to avoid and understand grains and beans that are genetically modified.
Fortunately, circumventing genetically modified food in the grain-and-bean aisle is simple. Other that corn, no GE grains are sold on the market. Most pasta is made from a few ingredients. As long as you avoid the less-common corn pasta, you're in the clear. Likewise, dried beans are often just beans with no additives.
Conventional Grains and Beans
Look for 100-percent wheat-pasta, couscous, rice, quinoa, oats, barley, sorghum, and dried beans (except soybeans).
Watch out for additives and other potential GE ingredients in the seasoning packets of boxed pasta and rice-based meals.
Organic Grains and Beans
Choose certified organic brans or GE-free brands of corn pasta, soybeans, and polenta.
