Natural Remedies for ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Natural Remedies for ADHD – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Zinc – There is some evidence that children with ADHD might have low levels of zinc. The mineral is involved in the production of melatonin, the so-called sleep hormone. Melatonin also plays an important role in regulating levels of the brain chemical dopamine. So, the thinking goes, low zinc levels could ultimately lead to low dopamine levels. In one six-week study, children who received 55 milligrams a day of zinc sulfate along with their stimulant medication exhibited fewer ADHD-related behaviors compared to those who just took the drug. Take 20 to 50 milligrams a day, but don't go any higher without consulting your physician.
Iron – Iron deficiencies, although relatively uncommon in children, can lead to behavioral problems. Ask your doctor to check your child's iron levels and, if they're low, recommend a supplement. Don't supplement on your own.
Sugar and ADHD
SUGAR : There are myths out there that sugar plays a role in ADHD, however, there are no studies showing a connection but, we feel sugar plays a huge role in nutrition and in effect some role in ADHD. Limit sugar intake in your child's diet by reading ingredient labels and limiting processed foods.
