The red, itchy rash of hives occurs when histamine is released in response to an allergen (such as certain foods, penicillin, latex, or bee stings), an infection, parasites, or viral hepatitis. if you develop hives around your eyes or in your mouth, seek emergency medical help.

To soothe the itching and prevent infection, avoid the urge to scratch, and follow these steps.
- Take 2 to 3 freeze-fried nettle capsules. Repeat with 1 to 3 capsules three to four times a day over the next 24 to 48 hours.
- Take a cool bath in which you've sprinkled one or two packets of Aveeno and 2 cups concentrated chamomile tea. To male the tea, steep two handfuls of loose chamomile tea in 2 cups boiling water for 15 minutes. Strain.
- If the hives are on a small part of the body,instead of the bath, add 20 to 30 drops of lavender oil to cold water, dip a clean cloth into it, and apply for up to 20 minutes.
- Follow with an application of calamine or Euraz lotion
- Still itching? Take 50 milligrams of Benadryl and repeat in 30 minutes if necessary.
